Triberg Waterfall Germany

At 500 feet Triberg Waterfall in the town of Triberg is Germany's highest falls and probably one of the prettiest. To enjoy the falls be sure you have on good nonskid boots or shoes and be prepared to walk UP!

You can park at Scheffelplatz entrance and it's a 5 minute downhill walk. Or do like we did and park in the center of the town at Haupteingang and walk up. According to the sign it's a 2 minute walk. Not sure about that. When your huffing and puffing your way up it seems a lot farther.

But well worth the effort!

Our band of happy travelers.

Into the Black Forest

From the top of the waterfall we took the trail through the woods.

This is in my mind what the Black Forest should look like. Dark and damp with large rocks covered in moss. I can just see Little Red Riding Hood walking this path with her basket of goodies while the wolf lurks behind a tree.

A bird we encountered on the trail. I've never seen one like this. All grey with some white, black and a touch of blue on his wing. The bird was about 8" long. Anyone know what kind of bird this is?

From the very top of the trail looking down.

The Triberg Waterfall will cost you € 3,50 a person but it's well worth the cost.
If you don't want to pay you can see a glimpse of the falls through the trees near the lower entrance.

But why do that?

Pay the money, lace up your shoes and take a walk!

Austria - Stuiben Waterfalls and Lake Plansee

If you're near Reutte, Austria two places you need to see are Stuiben Waterfall and Lake Plansee.

Small chapels like this dot the landscape. This one was near the car park
at the trail to the falls.

The inside of the chapel was almost as ornate as the big churches

Stuiben Falls

Even though it was a fairly steep climb to the falls the scenery was gorgeous. Something about looking at the clear flowing Archbach river and the towering mountains takes your mind off the climb.

On the trail to Stuiben Falls

Stuiben Falls

We were there!

Lake Plansee

I think if I'm ever here in the summer this would be the place to come. I'm sure boats would be in abundance on the water but in the cool of October the lake was quiet. Quiet and beautiful.

...and He leads me beside the still waters.

Lace up and take a walk to somewhere new!

Hiking at Cloudland Canyon State Park Georgia

We originally were going to tent camp on this trip. I think it was wise that we swapped our tent for a hotel room...

Cloudland Canyon State Park has got to be one of the most beautiful parks in Georgia. I think it was even more beautiful because of the ice that was all around. Huge icicles hung from the side of the canyon wall and as the heat of the midday sun warmed them up they would come down with a loud crash. Fortunately we were walking the waterfall trail on the other side of the canyon in the shade. Wouldn't want one of those to come down on me!

Step carefully there's ice on the trail!

We took the waterfall trail which is a one mile trail with a series of 600 steps down to the bottom of the waterfall. Of course we had to take the same trail back UP!

The upper falls

The lower falls

This trail is part of the Canyon Climbers Club. If you walk the trails at Tallulah Gorge, Providence Canyon, Amicalola Falls and Cloudland Canyon and get your membership card punched you can win a tee-shirt! We didn't know about this club so we didn't get a card to punch. I guess we'll have to make another trip up here one day.

Even though it was freezing we still enjoyed a nice walk. The key is to wear good hiking boots and socks, gloves, a hat that cover the ears (a must for me:-) and layers believe it or not you can get warm once you start moving.

Don't forget your walking sticks. They come in handy on uneven, ice covered trails.

The park in on the edge of Lookout Mountain in the northwest corner of the state.

Bundle up and take a walk!
